The production crew removed the eyebrows and sideburns, the face was painted flat white, the hair was teased out, and the eyes were opened up and reshaped with scissors. It became one of the most iconic masks of all time. Shatner initially didn’t know the mask was in his likeness, but when he found out years later, he said he was honored.
