Individual snowflakes are colorless and translucent. However, individual snowflakes can pick up dust or algae. These particles can give snow a variety of colors, including orange, green, yellow and even purple. Siberia reported an orange snowfall in 2007 and pink snow, also called watermelon snow, fell on Krasnodar, Russia in 2010.
